Our benefits package is designed to support employee well-being, financial security, and long-term success, so staff can focus on serving students and contributing meaningfully to the district.

Benefits at a Glance
Insurance
Eligible employees may participate in district insurance offerings, including health-related coverage and additional voluntary options.
Retirement
CPS employees may participate in retirement benefits through the Teachers’ Retirement System, with district contributions as applicable.
Leave
Paid leave options help employees manage illness, emergencies, bereavement, military service, and personal business.
Additional Support
Employees may also access voluntary benefit programs and employee purchase discounts through participating vendors.
Certified Employee Benefits
Insurance Benefits
  • Certified employees contracted to work a minimum of six hours per day are eligible for school insurance.
  • The Flexible Benefit Allowance is based on the cost of the premium for the Health Choice High Option plan ($640.28).
  • If the insurance option costs more than the Flexible Benefit Allowance, the difference will be deducted from the employee’s paycheck.
  • If the insurance option costs less than the Flexible Benefit Allowance, the difference will be paid to the employee as Flex Cash.
  • Certified employees who do not participate in a health insurance plan will receive Flex Cash in lieu of health insurance, currently listed as $69.71 per month.
  • Employees participating in the District Insurance Program will have premiums deducted from monthly compensation.
Retirement & Voluntary Benefits
  • Certified employees are automatically enrolled in the Teachers’ Retirement System.
  • The salary on the pay scale includes full teacher retirement contributions of 7% on all salary, deducted and paid by the district.
  • The district also pays an additional 9.5% contribution.
  • Voluntary insurance plans may include coverage for dependents with health, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • MASA Medical Transport Solutions: The district pays fully for the Emergent Plus Plan and up to $14.00 on the Platinum Plan, with any remaining amount paid out of pocket by the employee.
  • Focus Financial: CPS offers a matching plan with an employer match up to $100.00 per month. Employees become vested after completing five full years of employment with the district.
  • American Fidelity: Multiple voluntary plans are available and are employee-paid.
Leave
  • Sick Leave: One day per month of employment. A ten-month contract accrues ten days per fiscal year.
  • Emergency Leave: Two days per school year for full-time or part-time certified personnel, subject to district guidelines and superintendent determination.
  • Personal Business Leave: Three days per school year for business matters that cannot be conducted after school hours or on weekends.
  • Personal Leave (NOYB): A minimum of three days for personal leave, subject to district guidelines.
  • Bereavement Leave: Up to five days per year for immediate family members without loss of pay.
  • Military Leave: Available for certified employees serving in the armed forces, including the National Guard, when ordered to active duty or service.
  • Leave Sharing Program: Voluntary participation allows employees to donate sick leave to another employee experiencing an extraordinary or severe illness situation.

Support Employee Benefits

  • Employer statutory contributions are required at a rate of 9.50% for members of the Teachers’ Retirement System.
  • Voluntary insurance plans may include coverage for dependents with health, dental, vision, and life insurance.
